In this 1-minute highlight from the 2015 NCBA Convention, CattleFax CEO Randy Blach provides a concise snapshot of beef industry trends, market conditions, and producer opportunities.

In this short industry overview, Randy Blach, CEO of CattleFax, distills key insights on the state of the U.S. cattle and beef markets. Speaking to producers at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) Convention, he emphasizes how shifts in supply, demand, and trade were shaping prices and profitability at the time.

Randy highlights the cyclical nature of the cattle market noting how herd rebuilding, feed costs, and consumer demand interact to influence producer margins. He stresses the importance of data-driven decision-making, urging ranchers and industry professionals to plan proactively rather than reactively in response to volatility.

Throughout the clip, Blach’s tone is pragmatic and optimistic, reinforcing that the future of the beef industry depends on innovation, discipline, and adaptability. He concludes with a call for producers to stay informed, use market intelligence, and make strategic choices that align with long-term sustainability.

In this feature segment from The Angus Report, Randy Blach, CEO of CattleFax, provides an in-depth look at the factors influencing cattle and beef markets heading into 2018. The discussion centers on market cycles, global trade, and domestic demand, with Blach offering practical insights for producers and agri-business leaders navigating shifting economic conditions.

He begins by analyzing production trends, noting that herd expansion had begun to slow following several years of growth. He explains how supply stabilization, combined with steady domestic demand and stronger export markets, was creating a more balanced and sustainable pricing environment. Randy emphasizes that consumer trust and beef quality remain key competitive advantages for U.S. producers.

Throughout the segment, Blach underscores the value of long-term perspective — encouraging producers to focus on operational efficiency, risk management, and margin optimization rather than reacting to short-term price swings. His calm, data-driven perspective provides clarity on complex issues such as feed costs, trade agreements, and global protein competition.

    Talent FAQ's

Speaker fees can vary depending on factors such as expertise, demand, and event specifics. While some speakers may charge a flat fee for their services, others may have hourly rates. It’s best to discuss fee structures directly with the speaker or their representative to understand the pricing model.

Keynote speeches typically range from 30 to 90 minutes, with the duration determined by the speaker’s expertise, the event’s agenda, and audience preferences. Keynote speeches often include a combination of inspirational stories, practical insights, and actionable advice tailored to the event’s theme or objectives.

The scale of the event and audience size can indeed impact a speaker’s fee. Larger events with a broader reach or higher attendance may command higher fees due to increased exposure and demand. Conversely, smaller events or niche audiences may offer opportunities for more flexible pricing arrangements.

Travel expenses such as transportation, accommodation, and meals are typically negotiated separately from the speaker’s fee. These costs vary depending on the speaker’s location, travel distance, and event duration. It’s important to clarify travel arrangements and expenses during the booking process to avoid misunderstandings.

Many speakers require a deposit to secure a booking, with the remaining balance due closer to the event date. Deposits are often non-refundable and serve as a commitment from both parties. It’s advisable to discuss deposit requirements and payment terms with the speaker or their representative when finalizing the booking.

    • Virtual speaking appearances are a cost-effective alternative to high speaking fees, often 10-50% cheaper than in-person rates.
    • There is typically no difference in fee for a 15-minute speech versus a 60-minute speech.
    • Some motivational speakers are open to discounting their fee if hired for more than one event by the same organization.
