In this feature segment from The Angus Report, Randy Blach, CEO of CattleFax, provides an in-depth look at the factors influencing cattle and beef markets heading into 2018. He begins by analyzing production trends, noting that herd expansion had begun to slow following several years of growth. Randy emphasizes that consumer trust and beef quality remain key competitive advantages for U.S. producers.
Throughout the segment, Blach underscores the value of long-term perspective — encouraging producers to focus on operational efficiency, risk management, and margin optimization rather than reacting to short-term price swings. His calm, data-driven perspective provides clarity on complex issues such as feed costs, trade agreements, and global protein competition.
He concludes with a message of optimism: the cattle industry’s fundamentals are strong, and opportunities continue to grow for producers who invest in knowledge, innovation, and disciplined management.
