Silvia Vasquez-Lavado is a humanitarian, mountaineer, social entrepreneur, and internationally recognized keynote speaker whose extraordinary journey demonstrates the transformative power of courage and resilience. Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Silvia endured childhood sexual violence and spent decades confronting the emotional scars that shaped much of her adult life. Through healing, self-discovery, and an unwavering commitment to growth, she transformed her pain into a mission to empower others.
A life-changing experience in Peru led Silvia to the Himalayas and eventually to Mount Everest, where she discovered that the mountains provided both refuge and renewal. Her climbing journey became a pathway to healing, teaching her resilience, compassion, and the courage to reclaim her voice. In 2016, she summited Mount Everest, and in 2018 completed the Seven Summits, becoming the first openly gay woman in history to climb the highest peak on every continent.
Following the loss of her mother to cancer and a personal divorce, Silvia founded Courageous Girls, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping survivors of sexual violence heal through trekking and outdoor experiences.
