Running a supply chain business can be complex and overwhelming. As a successful entrepreneur, you’ve built a business that you’re proud of, but with growth comes more complicated challenges.

Whether it’s managing relationships with suppliers, addressing shareholder concerns, or deciding on new capital investments, navigating these issues can be stressful. In this session, Andrew Usuki will explain how implementing a clear governance system can reduce anxiety, ensure compliance, and enhance the overall value of your business.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand Corporate Governance Fundamentals
  • Implement Effective Governance Systems
  • Improve Stakeholder Management
  • Reduce Decision-Making Anxiety
  • Enhance Business Valuation and Legacy

Few founders of private automation companies, robotics manufacturers, and system integrators truly understand how to leverage corporate governance to achieve a more powerful valuation and lasting legacy. Andrew Usuki helps automation industry leaders by illuminating the pathway to success by examining five key stakeholders of their business:

Shareholders
Directors
Employees, customers, and suppliers
Creditors and acquirers
Legacy founders

From this session, private automation business founders and owners will gain enhanced self-awareness of their individual challenges within their organizations. They will better understand how to transform traditional approaches and implement best-in-class governance practices tailored for the rapidly evolving automation sector.

With these new solutions in place, founders and owners in the automation industry will experience reduced stress and uncertainty—ultimately achieving a more robust valuation and enduring legacy in this dynamic field.

Key Takeaway from the Presentation: The implementation of best-in-class corporate governance practices can lead to a more powerful valuation and lasting legacy for automation companies.

This takeaway is particularly valuable for several reasons:

  • Practical impact: It directly relates to increasing the company’s value, which is a primary concern for most business owners and founders.
  • Long-term perspective: It addresses the creation of a lasting legacy, appealing to founders who are thinking beyond immediate profits to their company’s future and their personal legacy in the industry.
  • Competitive advantage: In the rapidly evolving automation sector, having strong corporate governance can differentiate a company from its competitors, potentially leading to better partnerships, investments, or acquisition opportunities.
  • Stress reduction: The session promises to help reduce anxiety and stress for founders by providing clear strategies for addressing common business challenges through improved governance.
  • Holistic approach: By examining five key stakeholder groups, the session offers a comprehensive view of how governance affects all aspects of the business, not just the financial side.

Andrew Usuki illuminates the path to building lasting business legacies, accompanying business leaders on their journey. What defines Andrew most is his ability to work side-by-side with leaders to harness their own self-awareness of what within their business is causing anxiety.

By working together to change old approaches, Andrew helps leaders build and implement new solutions founded in outstanding corporate governance practices. With new solutions in place, anxieties are gone. Leaders are able to build lasting business legacy with a more powerful business valuation.

Andrew has advised businesses and governments spanning five continents in his career as an investment banker, manufacturing executive, shareholder, and investor in multiple businesses.

After completing his bachelor’s degree at Johns Hopkins University, Andrew Usuki started his career in the investment banking division of Salomon Smith Barney/Citi, where he honed his ability to understand value on raising capital, and selling and buying businesses. Upon receiving his MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Business at Arizona State University, Andrew crossed over from finance to manufacturing at PSG Dover Corporation, where he served in management roles learning first-hand how to run, grow, buy, and integrate newly acquired business divisions.

To develop the wisdom to purposefully navigate complex business conflicts, he earned a doctorate in law from Delaware Law School, in part because of its rich connection to the Delaware General Corporation Law statute and Delaware business case law, and because the school offered an evening program where he could work full-time launching his business during the day while attending classes at night. Additionally, Andrew currently serves as director on multiple boards.

Andrew is based near Grand Teton National Park and the Wind River Mountains in Western WY, and spends his time regularly traveling with clients across the US and the globe. When he’s not embedded with a team on an exciting project, Andrew Usuki enjoys exploring the US West/Southwest either in hiking boots, on back country skis, or by swimming.

Talent FAQ's

Speaker fees can vary depending on factors such as expertise, demand, and event specifics. While some speakers may charge a flat fee for their services, others may have hourly rates. It’s best to discuss fee structures directly with the speaker or their representative to understand the pricing model.

Keynote speeches typically range from 30 to 90 minutes, with the duration determined by the speaker’s expertise, the event’s agenda, and audience preferences. Keynote speeches often include a combination of inspirational stories, practical insights, and actionable advice tailored to the event’s theme or objectives.

The scale of the event and audience size can indeed impact a speaker’s fee. Larger events with a broader reach or higher attendance may command higher fees due to increased exposure and demand. Conversely, smaller events or niche audiences may offer opportunities for more flexible pricing arrangements.

Travel expenses such as transportation, accommodation, and meals are typically negotiated separately from the speaker’s fee. These costs vary depending on the speaker’s location, travel distance, and event duration. It’s important to clarify travel arrangements and expenses during the booking process to avoid misunderstandings.

Many speakers require a deposit to secure a booking, with the remaining balance due closer to the event date. Deposits are often non-refundable and serve as a commitment from both parties. It’s advisable to discuss deposit requirements and payment terms with the speaker or their representative when finalizing the booking.

  • Virtual speaking appearances are a cost-effective alternative to high speaking fees, often 10-50% cheaper than in-person rates.
  • There is typically no difference in fee for a 15-minute speech versus a 60-minute speech.
  • Some motivational speakers are open to discounting their fee if hired for more than one event by the same organization.
  • When browsing speakers, consider their location to keep travel costs down.
  • Personal connections to your organization or event location can increase your chances of securing a renowned speaker.
  • Be upfront about your needs and expectations to ensure a successful partnership.
  • Speaker bureaus like Speakers Inc help guide you through the booking process to negotiate the best deal with favorable terms.
