Anita Asante is a footballer who plays in defence for Aston Villa and has over 70 caps for the England national team.
Having also been a part of the London 2012 Olympic Games Team GB football squad, Anita has claimed awards such as Nationwide Player of the Month and Player of the Year 2003.
Having vocally advocated her passions for equality and anti-discrimination, Anita is now booked as a female motivational speaker to share her passions for diversity and inclusion.
Joining Arsenal as a junior player in 1998, Anita developed her skills to become a senior player in the 2003-04 season. She made her mark as part of the team that claimed victory at the FA Women’s Premier League Cup, UEFA Women’s Cup, FA Women’s Cup and the FA Women’s National Premier League– named as 2006-07 quadruple.
Anita has also played for the likes of Chelsea, Sky Blue FC, Saint Louis Athletica, Chicago Red Stars and FC Rosengard.
After various spells with American and Swedish football clubs, Anita returned to her original team Arsenal to play in the WSL campaign in 2020. Anita has also previously been a member of the Under 17, Under 19 and Under 21 England national teams, with her most prominent role being the captain of England Under 19 team.
She scored her first international goal in a match against Norway and has also claimed recognition of the Outstanding Achievement Award 2006 and the Sports Award 2004 from the Ghana Professional Awards.
Openly lesbian, Anita has forged a reputation for her advocacy for the LGBT+ community and for anti-discrimination.
