    It Pays to Lighten Up

Fun at Work is serious business.

Humorist and corporate culture expert Scott Christopher debunks the myth that levity is somehow a frivolous non-issue and detrimental to an organization’s success.

In a lively and hilarious speech, Christopher establishes the case for levity leadership using:

    1. data from the Great Place to Work Institute’s million person study establishing the connection between “fun at work” and “best places”
    2. statistics from various surveys and research supporting the importance of having a sense of humor
    3. case studies and stories from KPMG, Boeing, Microsoft, Virgin, Southwest Airlines and many other organizations where levity has moved the needle
    4. proven tips, tools, and ideas on how to lighten up a workplace NOW

This presentation is a high-level look at all aspects of the levity effect, including:

    • the business relevance of humor and fun
    • energizing fun at work
    • building trust
    • creating dynamic presentations
    • holding more effective meetings
    • enhancing creativity
    • levity for home and life

Learning to Put ‘People First’ and Why You Should Even Care

Are you a ‘People’ Person? And why does it matter?

In an increasingly competitive business climate, People People provide more tangible value to a company than ever before.

    Why?

As constantly-improving technology dehumanizes relationships and communications–allowing ‘users’ to hide behind their e-personas–People People lift their organizations above the competition by refusing to lose touch with humanity.

They prefer a phone call over text, a face-to-face chat over an email, a handshake over a ‘poke’ or ‘nudge.’

Most of today’s ‘best’ companies rely heavily on the human touch to help differentiate their market brand, their public image and their employee culture.

In People People, best-selling author and speaker Scott Christopher explains the four fundamental attributes (C.A.R.E.™) of People People, how to become a true Type III People Person, why ‘People First’ organizations excel, and how to do it.

Sharing a mix of business cases, research data and compelling stories, Scott builds a convincing case that winning organizations are flush with People People and that ‘nice guys’ really do finish first: People People are healthier, wealthier, happier and live longer than their less-caring cohorts.

The simple truth is that being a People Person is less about being good WITH people, as being good TO people.

    Talent Short Bio

Scott Christopher is a keynote speaker, author, and workplace culture expert known for helping organizations improve engagement, morale, and leadership effectiveness through the power of humor and levity. As co-author of the bestselling book The Levity Effect: Why It Pays to Lighten Up, he demonstrates how a lighter workplace culture can drive better communication, stronger relationships, and higher performance.

Scott’s expertise combines leadership development, organizational behavior, and entertainment. He holds a master’s degree in Human Resources Management from University of Connecticut and spent years working in leadership training and corporate development. During that time he also served as Director of the Carrot Culture initiative, contributing to books such as A Carrot A Day and The Daily Carrot Principle.

Beyond the business world, Scott has built a long career as a professional entertainer. Since 1990 he has worked as a film and television actor, commercial spokesperson, voice artist, and event emcee. This unique blend of corporate insight and stage experience allows him to deliver engaging presentations filled with research, real-world examples, and laughter.

Scott Christopher is co-author of the best-selling business book The Levity Effect: Why It Pays to Lighten Up, People People and The Seven UPS of Happiness.

As the former director of the Carrot Culture, Scott was also a contributing author of the very good selling A Carrot A Day, The Daily Carrot Principle. In addition to having a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management (UConn) and more than a decade’s experience working in leadership development and training, Scott has been a film and television actor, commercial pitchman, voice artist and emcee since 1990.

The main focus of Scott Christopher laugh-a-minute lectures is sharing how levity, humor and becoming more of a ‘people person’ can help you excel in business and at home. Scott practices what he preaches by presenting meaningful data, research, case studies and stories in a relaxed, interactive, hilarious environment.

If 20+ years speaking to hundreds of blown away clients has taught Scott Christopher anything it’s THERE IS NO AUDIENCE THAT DOESN’T WANT TO LAUGH, regardless of how ‘serious’ the topic may be.

Fortunately, Scott mainly speaks about LEVITY in the workplace and how to LIGHTEN UP in life and is roundly accepted as one of the funniest speakers today, so audience laughter is a regular occurrence. Loud, howling laughter.

After speaking recently to a group of 350 state government managers one commented, “In all our years doing this event, I have never heard this group laugh so hard-at anything or anyone!

In his rare spare time, Scott is a television host, emcee and actor (SAG), appearing on network television series EverwoodTouched by an Angel and in Disney Channel movies.

    Talent FAQ's

Speaker fees can vary depending on factors such as expertise, demand, and event specifics. While some speakers may charge a flat fee for their services, others may have hourly rates. It’s best to discuss fee structures directly with the speaker or their representative to understand the pricing model.

Keynote speeches typically range from 30 to 90 minutes, with the duration determined by the speaker’s expertise, the event’s agenda, and audience preferences. Keynote speeches often include a combination of inspirational stories, practical insights, and actionable advice tailored to the event’s theme or objectives.

The scale of the event and audience size can indeed impact a speaker’s fee. Larger events with a broader reach or higher attendance may command higher fees due to increased exposure and demand. Conversely, smaller events or niche audiences may offer opportunities for more flexible pricing arrangements.

Travel expenses such as transportation, accommodation, and meals are typically negotiated separately from the speaker’s fee. These costs vary depending on the speaker’s location, travel distance, and event duration. It’s important to clarify travel arrangements and expenses during the booking process to avoid misunderstandings.

Many speakers require a deposit to secure a booking, with the remaining balance due closer to the event date. Deposits are often non-refundable and serve as a commitment from both parties. It’s advisable to discuss deposit requirements and payment terms with the speaker or their representative when finalizing the booking.

    • Virtual speaking appearances are a cost-effective alternative to high speaking fees, often 10-50% cheaper than in-person rates.
    • There is typically no difference in fee for a 15-minute speech versus a 60-minute speech.
    • Some motivational speakers are open to discounting their fee if hired for more than one event by the same organization.
    • When browsing speakers, consider their location to keep travel costs down.
    • Personal connections to your organization or event location can increase your chances of securing a renowned speaker.
    • Be upfront about your needs and expectations to ensure a successful partnership.
    • Speaker bureaus like Speakers Inc help guide you through the booking process to negotiate the best deal with favorable terms.
