Navigating Disruptive Demographic Change – Demography may not be destiny, but disruptive demographic change is rapidly reshaping our world.

“The Future of Us” will examine how the population is aging due to lower birth rates and longer lifespans. Depending on our choices, this seismic shift in our demographic profile can lead to significant progress or reversal in longevity gains, economic growth, and social cohesion in the coming years.

Schurman offers a frank assessment of the best paths forward for specific industries and organizations in the U.S. and around the world.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are central to any successful organization.

In fact, according to Gensler, diverse organizations outperform those that are not by upwards of 30 percent. However, according to the World Economic Forum, only a third of organizations consider age inclusion as part of their strategy.

Schurman offers pathways for organizations looking to develop an age-inclusive enterprise responsive to demographic change in workforce recruitment and retention, product and service development, and marketing and communication strategies.

Over 61 million Americans and 1 billion people worldwide have some form of disability. This hinders their ability to participate as workers and consumers in the economy.

Schurman shares his organization’s approach to creating inclusive spaces that consider the wide range of disabilities, from neurodiversity to acquired disabilities, that comes with a long life. His approach can extend working lives and improve the customer experience in the built environment.

In addition to these keynotes, I am available to speak at Pride Month events in June on inequities faced by LGBTQ+ populations and longevity strategies for members of the community.

The latter is especially important to me because the younger Gen X and early millennials are the first gay men to live with HIV or preventative measures like PrEP. Their life expectancy jumped from about 40 a decade ago to nearly 80 today.

Demographic change and generational diversity are two issues organizations understand least, yet they are profoundly important to successful operations and profitability.

The “working-age population” in the U.S. — those aged 16 to 64 — is contracting at a pace not experienced since World War II, and older workers — those over 65 — already make up a third of the workforce and are anticipated to grow in the coming years.

Today, five generations work side by side, sometimes creating friction in the workplace due to a myriad of factors, including ageism and communication styles.

However, organizations that tackle these issues head-on can build inclusive environments that harness the power of each individual, building purpose and camaraderie among staff. Because, in the end, when individuals focus on what their colleagues can do over what they believe they can not, organizations thrive.

Bradley Schurman is Founder and CEO of The Super Age – a global strategic research and advisory firm helping public and private organizations understand the challenges and harness the opportunities of demographic change, with a focus on population aging.

The Super Age is a global strategic foresight and inclusive design firm that helps organizations develop and implement strategies and solutions that consider our new demographic realities.

Our strategic foresight group helps businesses uncover the possibilities of tomorrow and leverage older adults’ social and economic power, enhancing resilience and improving profitability across enterprises. Our inclusive design practice inspires some of the world’s biggest brands to create spaces in the built environment that help each individual do their best work, live their best lives, and be their best selves, regardless of age or ability.

Prior to launching his company and authoring the book, Bradley Schurman was Co-Founder and Managing Partner of EconomyFour, where he led business development in Asia and Europe. He also served at AARP – the world’s largest organization dedicated to improving the lives of older people – where he was Director of Global Partnerships and Engagements.

Schurman was instrumental in securing the topics of aging and longevity as focus areas at both the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and World Economic Forum (WEF). He was also responsible for visioning and executing the Aging Readiness and Competitiveness Report – a groundbreaking collaborative research project between AARP and Foreign Policy Group.

Bradley Schurman has been featured on NBC’s TODAY Show and quoted in the New York Times, HuffingtonPost, and USA Today, as well as in local and national media outlets around the world. He speaks regularly at thought leader forums and has advised national governments and major businesses on their longevity strategies.

You might also know him as the founder of The Super Age – a global collective of change-makers that offers information and professional business consulting services geared to help organizations respond to demographic change, as well as harness the opportunities of an increasingly older and generationally diverse population, or for the groundbreaking AARP Aging Readiness and Competitiveness Report.

Bradley Schurman is a social connector that has built his reputation by helping leading organizations understand our increasingly older and generational diverse world. He explains how shifting demographics and the collision of the megatrends of decreased birth rates and increased longevity are remaking social and economic norms in the United States and around the world.

    Talent FAQ's

Speaker fees can vary depending on factors such as expertise, demand, and event specifics. While some speakers may charge a flat fee for their services, others may have hourly rates. It’s best to discuss fee structures directly with the speaker or their representative to understand the pricing model.

Keynote speeches typically range from 30 to 90 minutes, with the duration determined by the speaker’s expertise, the event’s agenda, and audience preferences. Keynote speeches often include a combination of inspirational stories, practical insights, and actionable advice tailored to the event’s theme or objectives.

The scale of the event and audience size can indeed impact a speaker’s fee. Larger events with a broader reach or higher attendance may command higher fees due to increased exposure and demand. Conversely, smaller events or niche audiences may offer opportunities for more flexible pricing arrangements.

Travel expenses such as transportation, accommodation, and meals are typically negotiated separately from the speaker’s fee. These costs vary depending on the speaker’s location, travel distance, and event duration. It’s important to clarify travel arrangements and expenses during the booking process to avoid misunderstandings.

Many speakers require a deposit to secure a booking, with the remaining balance due closer to the event date. Deposits are often non-refundable and serve as a commitment from both parties. It’s advisable to discuss deposit requirements and payment terms with the speaker or their representative when finalizing the booking.

    • Virtual speaking appearances are a cost-effective alternative to high speaking fees, often 10-50% cheaper than in-person rates.
    • There is typically no difference in fee for a 15-minute speech versus a 60-minute speech.
    • Some motivational speakers are open to discounting their fee if hired for more than one event by the same organization.
    • When browsing speakers, consider their location to keep travel costs down.
    • Personal connections to your organization or event location can increase your chances of securing a renowned speaker.
    • Be upfront about your needs and expectations to ensure a successful partnership.
    • Speaker bureaus like Speakers Inc help guide you through the booking process to negotiate the best deal with favorable terms.
