Artificial Intelligence and Humanity – Unlocking Latent Human Potential

This keynote redefines artificial intelligence, shifting the focus away from machines and data toward the profound ways AI intersects with humanity. With insights on millennials, social media, and the need for purpose-driven work, the talk illustrates why the future of organizations isn’t just about technology, but about unlocking human potential. Leaders will discover why innovation is combinatorial, how expectations of new generations are reshaping business, and why AI is ultimately a human story.

Opening:
“Today I want you to ignore the slides and look at me. Because what I want to talk about isn’t really about tech slides — it’s about love. Specifically, love in the context of artificial intelligence.”

The presentation challenges conventional views of AI:

  • AI is not machines beating Kasparov or crunching radiology scans. Instead, it’s a human story reshaping how we work, live, and connect.
  • Three shifts in 2000 reshaped the world: more people in cities than rural areas, the iPhone revolution, and millennials becoming the majority workforce.
  • 86% of internet traffic in 2019 was giving, not taking. AI has enabled people to create, share, and contribute in unprecedented ways.
  • Social media is not technology; it’s expression. Like ancient cave paintings, humans post, tweet, and share because we long for community, recognition, and not to be forgotten.
  • Innovation is combinatorial. AI and digital tools amplify human potential when organizations tap into collective creativity, not just individual genius.
  • Millennials want purpose, not permanence. Impact-driven engagement is the future of sustainable organizations.

Closing:
“As much as today is about technology, it is even more so about humanity. Understand the substrate of what makes us who we are — because AI is not technological, it is human.”

This keynote explores how emerging technology, social graphs, and sensory devices are reshaping the way cities work and how governments deliver services. Highlighting the power of real-time data, social integration, and open ecosystems, it challenges leaders to rethink infrastructure, policies, and innovation. With examples ranging from mobile devices to driverless cars, the talk demonstrates why Africa is uniquely positioned to lead the charge in building sensory-aware, responsive cities.

Opening:
“This talk is about ambient awareness within the context of cities. Technology has finally caught up to our vision — it’s time to turn cities into sensory-aware platforms.”

The presentation highlights:

  • How mobile devices have evolved from phones into powerful sensory engines capable of seeing, hearing, and sensing.
  • The cultural shift from ownership to access, with platforms like Spotify, Dropbox, and Netflix replacing DVDs, CDs, and hard drives.
  • The rise of immersive experiences, where children expect every device to be interactive and real-time.
  • Why embedding intelligence into everyday objects — from furniture to traffic lights — can reduce waste, improve safety, and foster innovation.
  • How governments should stop trying to build everything themselves, and instead expose APIs and data to empower citizens and developers to create solutions.
  • The importance of gamification and feedback loops to influence behavior and improve urban living.
  • Why Africa has a unique advantage: no entrenched legacy systems, faster adaptability, and the chance to lead the world in open, sensory-aware city models.

Closing call:
“I want citywide, real-time sensory blankets. Let’s inject intelligence into everything and allow our cities to speak back to us. Africa can lead this future if we act now.”

In this keynote, the speaker explores the radical shifts reshaping technology, business, and society. From exoskeletons that restore mobility to paraplegics, to the way smartphones have become powerful sensory engines, the talk unpacks how computing has evolved from desktops and peripherals into immersive, always-connected edge devices. The keynote also highlights the cultural clash between “digital natives” and traditional enterprises, and why the future economy is moving away from ownership toward real-time access and services.

Opening:
“Today I want to talk about robotics, computing, and how the world is changing. One of my startups is working on exoskeletons — not just to help paraplegics walk, but even to give them the ability to reach up from a wheelchair. At the same time, I want to show how computing itself is evolving…”

Core themes of the talk:

  • Robotics & exoskeletons: Engineering breakthroughs enabling new mobility for paraplegics.
  • Disappearing peripherals: From towers and mice to tablets and immersive screens.
  • Digital natives vs. enterprises: Why kids find banks and corporations “suck” compared to the freedom of universal digital identities.
  • Phones are not phones: Devices in our hands have become peripheral sensory rendering engines—capable of seeing, hearing, detecting motion, and storing massive data.
  • The real-time shift: Twitter, YouTube, and social media redefine information flow faster than search engines.
  • Ownership to access: Businesses moving from product ownership (DVDs, cars, hard drives) to services and subscriptions (Netflix, Zipcar, Spotify, Dropbox).
  • The edge explosion: Devices hold more computing power and storage than entire PCs did a decade ago—soon a single device could carry the whole internet.
  • The new architecture: Osmotic data flow—information moving naturally between high and low saturation—will reshape networks.

Closing:
“Everything is converging on the edge. The devices in our hands will store, sense, and render more than we can imagine. The future network won’t just be cloud in the sky, it will be cloud in your hand. And that changes everything.”

Speaker fees can vary depending on factors such as expertise, demand, and event specifics. While some speakers may charge a flat fee for their services, others may have hourly rates. It’s best to discuss fee structures directly with the speaker or their representative to understand the pricing model.

Keynote speeches typically range from 30 to 90 minutes, with the duration determined by the speaker’s expertise, the event’s agenda, and audience preferences. Keynote speeches often include a combination of inspirational stories, practical insights, and actionable advice tailored to the event’s theme or objectives.

The scale of the event and audience size can indeed impact a speaker’s fee. Larger events with a broader reach or higher attendance may command higher fees due to increased exposure and demand. Conversely, smaller events or niche audiences may offer opportunities for more flexible pricing arrangements.

Travel expenses such as transportation, accommodation, and meals are typically negotiated separately from the speaker’s fee. These costs vary depending on the speaker’s location, travel distance, and event duration. It’s important to clarify travel arrangements and expenses during the booking process to avoid misunderstandings.

Many speakers require a deposit to secure a booking, with the remaining balance due closer to the event date. Deposits are often non-refundable and serve as a commitment from both parties. It’s advisable to discuss deposit requirements and payment terms with the speaker or their representative when finalizing the booking.

  • Virtual speaking appearances are a cost-effective alternative to high speaking fees, often 10-50% cheaper than in-person rates.
  • There is typically no difference in fee for a 15-minute speech versus a 60-minute speech.
