Jeremy Poincenot is an internationally recognized blind golf champion and motivational speaker whose journey began with an unexpected life change at age 19. While a sophomore at San Diego State University enjoying school, sports, and fraternity life, Jeremy suddenly began losing his perfect vision. He was ultimately diagnosed with Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, a rare genetic disorder that affects roughly 100 people in the U.S. each year. What could have ended his ambitions instead ignited a new purpose.
With the support of his father as his guide, Jeremy entered the world of blind golf and, remarkably, won the 2010 World Blind Golf Championship just one year after losing his sight. Since then, he has continued to dominate the sport, earning three World and eight National Blind Golf Championships. His achievements highlight not only his perseverance but his ability to adapt, collaborate, and excel despite profound challenges.
At 19, Jeremy Poincenot was just like any other sophomore at San Diego State University—enjoying life with friends, sports, and fraternity activities, all underpinned by his perfect 20/20 vision. However, life took an unexpected turn when Jeremy started losing his sight without any prior warning. Diagnosed with Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON), a rare genetic disorder affecting only about 100 people in the U.S. annually, Jeremy’s life seemed to blur just as his vision did. But what initially appeared as a devastating blow transformed into a journey of incredible achievement and inspiration.
Jeremy’s journey into blindness did not deter his spirits; instead, it fueled his passion for overcoming adversity. A year after losing his sight, he, with his father as his guide, won the 2010 World Blind Golf Championship in England. This victory was not just a win in the game of golf but a triumph over his circumstances, propelling him into a series of further successes. To date, Jeremy has clinched three World and eight National Blind Golf Championships, showcasing not only his resilience but also his exceptional skill in adapting to and excelling in new challenges.
His experiences have turned him into a sought-after keynote speaker, where he shares his story of turning a significant loss into a series of victories. Jeremy’s speeches are filled with powerful narratives about facing life’s unexpected challenges, embracing change, and the importance of perseverance and teamwork. Jeremy Poincenot ability to connect with his audience on a personal level, combined with his infectious enthusiasm and genuine passion for life, make him a remarkable presence at any event.

A powerful 3-minute feature highlighting Jeremy Poincenot’s journey from sudden blindness at 19 to World Blind Golf Champion, showcasing resilience, perspective, and the mindset that fuels extraordinary comebacks.
In this 3m28 segment, viewers are introduced to Jeremy Poincenot through a media feature that reframes adversity with courage, humility, and perspective. The video opens with the host noting that while many athletes overcome hurdles, Jeremy’s story stands out for both its challenge and his attitude. What begins as an ordinary college experience quickly transforms when Jeremy recounts losing his sight at age 19. Diagnosed with Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, he explains how his central vision disappeared in just two months, leaving him legally blind and facing the most difficult obstacle of his life.
Jeremy describes how shifting to a positive mindset became essential. Instead of seeing blindness as an ending, he chose to see the diagnosis as something that offered purpose. That mindset fueled an extraordinary athletic comeback: within a year, with his father as his guide, Jeremy became a World Blind Golf Champion. The video includes reactions from athletes and audience members who share how inspiring his journey is—both his perseverance and the way he refuses to let blindness dictate his identity or limit his aspirations.
Clips from his appearances on MTV’s True Life and ABC’s 20/20 reinforce the visibility of his story and the lessons he emphasizes. Jeremy reminds viewers that everyone carries hidden challenges, and although we cannot always control what happens to us, we can choose how to adapt. His message underscores character, happiness, and resilience, ending with a standing ovation that reflects the emotional impact of his story. In just a few minutes, the video presents a compelling portrait of optimism, determination, and the mindset of a champion.
