Keynote Topics:

Jay Z said it best: I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man. The multi-hyphenation of individuals is the future.

It will be the norm for people to have a portfolio of companies and employment, thanks to market shifts in employment (The Great Resignation, COVID catalyzed), lack of life satisfaction in status quo work environments, and the need to generate revenue to stay afloat and make ends meet.

In her talk, Lolita Taub explains why the future is multi-hyphenated in the era of community and how organizations can leverage this new market shift in creating or maintaining their edge.

A disruption and innovation workshop.

In this 1-hour workshop and Q&A session, we create an opportunity for individuals to widen their perspective on bias in artificial intelligence (AI). Often the concept of AI gets watered down to the ideology that it is neutral and therefore does not include discussions of race, class, sex, etc. Through this workshop, Lolita discusses the various ways in which AI can both address and amplify bias, using historical and contemporary examples.

Topics

  1. AI disruption and innovation: We discuss the impact of AI on our personal and professional lives.
  2. Interactive AI and bias group and individual exercise: Through a couple of exercises we witness first-hand how
  3. AI can both amplify and address bias
  4. Ensuring inclusive AI: We go over how techie and non-techie people can address and keep bias out.

Audience take-away:

Audience members, both technical and non-technical, can walk away curious, with a clear understanding of AI basics, its implications, and tactics to combat bias in AI in and out of work.

Who this is for:

Students, employees, and organizations that want to expand their community’s understanding of bleeding-edge technologies, their implications on humanity, and what we can do to make sure tech is inclusive.

As General Partner at Ganas Ventures, she focuses on pre-seed and seed-stage companies built around strong, engaged communities, bringing 15 years of Silicon Valley experience to the emerging startup landscape.

Her story begins in South Central Los Angeles, where she grew up in a Mexican immigrant household facing financial hardship. Inspired by her father’s work ethic and fueled by her own ambition, Lolita defied expectations to earn a bachelor’s degree, an MBA and more than a decade of experience in tech and venture capital. Her career includes influential roles as an angel investor, Scout at Lightspeed Venture Partners, and VC at Backstage Capital and The Community Fund, where she consistently championed women, people of color and LGBTQ+ founders.

With over $70 million in sales and more than 90 investments across sectors including fintech, healthcare and community-powered software, Lolita has built a reputation as a highly effective advocate for founders historically overlooked by traditional venture.

Lolita Taub is not your typical venture capitalist. With a mission deeply rooted in community empowerment and a career spanning 15 years within the heart of Silicon Valley, she has emerged as a pivotal figure in the startup ecosystem. As a General Partner at Ganas Ventures, Lolita channels her expertise into investing in pre-seed and seed-stage companies driven by community impact.

Her journey from humble beginnings in South Central Los Angeles to becoming a prominent advocate for underestimated founders and funders is nothing short of inspiring.

Taub’s upbringing in South Central Los Angeles was marked by financial hardship. Born to Mexican immigrant parents with limited resources, she witnessed firsthand the struggles of making ends meet. Despite the odds stacked against her, Taub’s determination and drive propelled her forward. Her father, working various manual labor jobs, instilled in her the value of hard work and resilience.

Taub’s academic pursuits eventually led her to defy expectations. At the age of 34, she had earned a bachelor’s degree, an MBA, and amassed over a decade of experience in the tech industry. This included notable roles in venture funds committed to investing in underrepresented communities, namely women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community. Talent FAQ's

Speaker fees can vary depending on factors such as expertise, demand, and event specifics. While some speakers may charge a flat fee for their services, others may have hourly rates. It’s best to discuss fee structures directly with the speaker or their representative to understand the pricing model.

Keynote speeches typically range from 30 to 90 minutes, with the duration determined by the speaker’s expertise, the event’s agenda, and audience preferences. Keynote speeches often include a combination of inspirational stories, practical insights, and actionable advice tailored to the event’s theme or objectives.

The scale of the event and audience size can indeed impact a speaker’s fee. Larger events with a broader reach or higher attendance may command higher fees due to increased exposure and demand. Conversely, smaller events or niche audiences may offer opportunities for more flexible pricing arrangements.

Travel expenses such as transportation, accommodation, and meals are typically negotiated separately from the speaker’s fee. These costs vary depending on the speaker’s location, travel distance, and event duration. It’s important to clarify travel arrangements and expenses during the booking process to avoid misunderstandings.

Many speakers require a deposit to secure a booking, with the remaining balance due closer to the event date. Deposits are often non-refundable and serve as a commitment from both parties. It’s advisable to discuss deposit requirements and payment terms with the speaker or their representative when finalizing the booking.

  • Virtual speaking appearances are a cost-effective alternative to high speaking fees, often 10-50% cheaper than in-person rates.
  • There is typically no difference in fee for a 15-minute speech versus a 60-minute speech.
  • Some motivational speakers are open to discounting their fee if hired for more than one event by the same organization.
  • When browsing speakers, consider their location to keep travel costs down.
  • Personal connections to your organization or event location can increase your chances of securing a renowned speaker.
  • Be upfront about your needs and expectations to ensure a successful partnership.
  • Speaker bureaus like Speakers Inc help guide you through the booking process to negotiate the best deal with favorable terms.
