Johnny declared for the NFL Draft in 2007 and was ranked in Top 10 at the wide receiver position in career receptions, career yards and career touchdowns at the collegiate level. 35 wide receivers went on to be selected in the 2007 NFL Draft and he was not one of them. Shortly after the draft concluded, Johnny signed his first free-agent contract with the Buffalo Bills.

He signed his second free-agent contract in 2008 with the Green Bay Packers. After bouncing around the NFL for two years, Johnny went on to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 2009 as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Johnny’s team played the Montreal Alouettes in the 97th Grey Cup and lost 28-27 on a 33-yard field goal as time ran out.
